Event: Elixir of Love

Sylvestre K. Akakpo Adzaku is originally from Togo, West Africa and currently based in New York City. He has been dancing since he was a child and began his professional dance training in 1996 in Africa. Sylvestre was a company member for La Compagnie Heddy Maalem and performed Le Sacre du Printemps in Africa, Europe and across the US including the Joyce Theater and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. He was a part of the creative process and performed Portrait of My Father by Nora Chipaumire at 92nd St Y and the Baryshnikov Arts Center. Sylvestre has also worked and performed with Souleymane Badolo in Burkina-Faso and the US. He performed in Badolo’s Bessie Award winning piece, Yimbegre, at the River 2 River Festival, BAM Next Wave and Jacob’s Pillow. Sylvestre is an emerging choreographer and has collaborated with many dancers and choreographers such as Onye Ozuzu, Etienne Cakpo and Daria Fain. Sylvestre presented his works I Am That and More and Tchaka Tchaka at two Movement Research Festivals and Reality and Frontier(s) Bates Dance Festival.
