Nia Soyemi - Mezzo-Soprano
NIA SOYEMI is a graduate of Hollywood High School and is currently a Junior at City College studying Theater and Finance. A member of SoHarmoniums, she has performed at Merkin Hall. A former Kumon teacher, Nia taught math and reading at the Kumon in Harlem. She is also an alum of World of Money, an organization that empowers youth with financial literacy and business skills. Nia teaches choreography and movement at a summer music camp in Savannah, Georgia and is the Final Performance's Creative Director for the Savannah’s Children’s Choir. A Praise and Worship leader and a Choir Director at St. Paul AME, Nia keeps her vocal skills honed. A proud member of Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity, Nia has appeared on Broadway in the musical Hairspray, played a principal role in the television series Law & Order: SVU, and various public service announcements. An aspiring actress, contemporary/musical theater vocalist and songwriter, Nia enjoys spending her time developing her talents in singing, writing, and recording.
Nia performed at Radio City Music Hall, opening for Miguel at a Garden of Dreams event, at the Prudential Center for the WNBA Liberty Games, at a diversity conference for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) held at the Empire State Building, Coca Cola’s 125th Anniversary celebration in Atlanta. She has toured Italy, London, France, Jamaica and will be in Japan for the 4th time this coming December with D & P Joubert. Nia is the recipient of the Youth of the Year award from the National Council of Negro Women, founded by the late Dorothy Height. An active member of the NAACP Youth Council and a competitor in the NAACP’s ACTSO program, Nia received a silver medal in the contemporary vocal category twice.
