Carrie A. Johnson is currently in the original Broadway cast of the new musical comedy, SISTER ACT.
Carrie stumbled upon a professional musical theatre career by happenstance out of college. As a musician she is a flautist, vocalist, musical arranger, conductor and musical director; but found another love in the world of musical theatre. She played Carnegie Hall twice as a flautist before her professional career began, and a third time during her collegiate career where she won “Best Arrangement” for her a cappella rendition of Gershwin’s “Someone To Watch Over Me.” She carries a BME from the University of Illinois and has traveled with various cruise ships and tours, including a year spent in Japan performing in both English and Japanese and closing Walt Disney’s longest running review show, “The Diamond Horseshoe Revue”.
She has had the pleasure of performing some of her favorite roles in many of the most beautiful theatres across the country including ‘Fantine’ in Les Miserables on the closing Broadway National tour,and ’Mother’ in Ragtime at the Kennedy Center, filling in for Christiane Noll for two performances.
Credits include Broadway’s new musical Sister Act; Broadway Tours of Les Miserables, The Producers; Off Broadway/Workshops: Ever After, Pamela’s First Musical; Regional productions of Ragtime (Kennedy Center), Chess (North Carolina Theatre), Annie (Olney), The Happy Time (Signature Theatre), I Love A Piano (Denver Center), Camelot (Olney), Crazy For You (Arvada Center), Saving Aimee (Signature Theatre), Into the Woods, Guys and Dolls, Man of La Mancha, Secret Garden, and others.
‘CJ’ has received two Helen Hayes nominations to date, for her portrayals of Grace Farrell in Annie at the Olney Theatre Center (also nominated for Outstanding Musical), and Laurie Mannon in a newly conceived production of The Happy Time at Signature Theatre, with John Kander assisting in the re-creation.
